Cultural resource management (CRM) is generally archaeology (or historic preservation of other forms such as architectural analysis) performed as a result of a regulation such as Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. Archaeological CRM seeks to identify and evaluate archaeological sites that are threatened by development and to recover data from those sites which cannot be saved.
