Jazz musician Miles Davis spanned six decades of jazz music and American culture. He began playing bebop with Charlie Parker in the 1940s and forged his own highly individualistic style until his death in 1991.

He weaved his way through bebop, "cool" jazz, hard bop, modal music, fusion, pop, and some unique hybrids of rock, funk, and blues. He left his mark on each style he touched, each musician who played with him, and each listener who listened.

Often compared to artist Pablo Picasso, Davis exhibited a similar ego, ambition, scope, and audacity, moving boldly forward with a quenchless thirst for change, reinvention, and renewal.
