Legendary jazz bassist born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1926. Credited with thousands of recordings, longtime bassist with pianist Oscar Peterson, husband to Ella Fitzgerald.

Carter, Ron

Widely recorded jazz bassist known for work with Miles Davis as well as authoritative teaching materials.

Garrison, Jimmy

Bassist James Emory Garrison, known to jazz fans as Jimmy, was born in 1933 in Philadelphia and died in 1976. Garrison will always be associated with John Coltrane, playing with the classic Coltrane quartet which included McCoy Tyner on piano and Elvin Jones on drums.

Leitham, Jennifer

Born John Leitham in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1953. Mainstream bassist known for long run with Mel Tormé as well as work with Woody Herman, Doc Severinsen, George Shearing and many other jazz notables.
