Personalities connected with the North Indian Classical Music Genre, called Hindustani Music.
Ustad Alla Rakha Khan (1919-2000) was a master of the Punjab school of tabla performance. He began his musical career in radio and composed music for more than two dozen films. His partnership with Ravi Shankar brought him worldwide recognition as a percussionist and brought Hindustani music to international attention. He also performed solo and in duets and trios with his sons Zakir Hussain and Fazal Qureshi.
Ravi Shankar was born in 1920. By 1960, he'd become internationally known as a classical Indian musician. His association with the Beatles and performances at the Monterey Pop Festival and The Woodstock Festival sealed his fame in the West. He is also a composer, an author, and an educator.
