Born in 1938 in Westfield, Massachusetts, he is especially well known for his involvement with Musica Electronica Viva in Rome in the 60s. Among those with whom he studied were Walter Piston, Roger Sessions, Milton Babbitt and Luigi Dallapiccola. Perhaps his best known work is the piano piece "The People United Will Never Be Defeated."
