English Romantic composer Hubert Parry was almost forgotten for decades, partially because of attacks by Bernard Shaw and partially because his romanticism conflicted with the strains of modern music. However, his reputation began a revival in the lated 20th Century. He is most remembered for his choral works, but Jerusalem, a setting of the William Blake poem, is the single piece that defines Parry. He wrote a number of hymn tunes and was an accomplished organist, pianist, and violinist.
