Joanne Kathleen Rowling was born on July 31, 1965, in Chipping Sodbury, a small town in southern England. She has published four books revolving around the magical world of apprentice wizard Harry Potter and his friends at the Hogwarts School.
Rowling's books have also found nearly universal critical acclaim as well, striking a responsive chord among both adults and children. Her blend of fantasy, humor, and adventure combines with deft characterization and masterful storytelling to create a truly wonderful series.
J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series is intended to comprise seven books. Four have been published so far. They are:
- Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (known as Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone in the USA)
- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
- Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
- Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
The fifth book is due early in 2002 and will be called Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
