Idella Parker was born in 1914 in the small community of Reddick, Florida. She may be best known as Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings' maid, a job she held for ten years. Almost thirty years after Rawlings' death, Parker, with Mary Keating, wrote her first book, Idella: Marjorie Rawlings' "Perfect Maid". Her second book, written with Bud and Liz Crussell, Idella Parker: From Reddick to Cross Creek was published in 1999.
Nii Ayikwei Parkes was born on April 1, 1974 to Ghanaian parents. He was educated at Ann's Preparatory, and Achimota School, and later studied at the Manchester Metropolitan University in the United Kingdom.It was while at Manchester that he emerged as a performance poet and became a familiar sight on the Manchester performance poetry scene. He also became a member of the Black Writer's Group of Commonword a Manchester based literary organisation through which he gained more exposure.

Author and screenwriter Richard Price has been surveying life in the streets and cities of New York and New Jersey since the 70s. Born on October 12, 1949, he has drawn on his childhood in the Bronx to create vivid portraits of the American class struggles. His novels are "The Wanderers," Bloodbrothers," "Ladies' Man," "The Breaks," "Clockers," "Freedomland" and "Samaritan"... several of which have been turned into films. Price is also a hugely popular screenwriter, penning the films "The Color of Money," "Sea of Love," "Ransom," "Shaft," "Kiss of Death" and many others.
