Braiding

Includes techniques including kumihimo (various Japanese techniques), ply-split braiding, and finger-loop braiding.

Braids can be used as ties, closures or trim on garments, as straps or belts, or as jewelry.

Dyeing

An ancient art filled with myth and lore. Dyers use either natural dyes from plant, animal or mineral sources, or synthetic dyes designed for specific fiber types. Many effects can be achieved by various techniques including vat dyeing, dip dyeing, masking with resist on fabric (batik), masking by tying fabric (tie-die or shibori), masking by tying warp or weft (ikat), warp or yarn painting, and variations of these.
