The Fushigi Yuugi TV series was based on its manga. The series told the story of the first 13 volumes, with the 2nd OVA completing the story. The 1st OVA basically filled in the blanks of the storyline and got everyone who did not read the manga up to speed on the storyline.Fushigi Yuugi TV Series (1995-1996)

-Split into two seasons. Episode #28 is the beginning of the second series, it is a recap of the first.
-Released in North America as 'Fushigi Yûgi' by Pioneer with subtitles or dubbed with the title "The Mysterious Play". Only half of the episodes have been translated so far (as of Dec '99), a new tape is due out approx. every two months.Fushigi Yuugi: 1st OVA

-Not based on the manga, written by totally different people. Acts as a bridge between the manga, the TV series and the second OVA.
