Fruits Basket is also known as "Furuba", from "Furustu Basuketto", the Japanese pronunciation of the series' title. Fruits basket started as a manga by Takaya Natsuki, published in the bi-monthly "Hana to Yume", and then became an anime.
Tohru Honda is a recently orphaned high-school girl who, not wishing to be a burden to her grandfather, begins living in a tent in a forest. However, the forest is on land owned by the Sohma clan, and after her tent is buried under a landslide, she moves in with the two Sohmas living on the property. But no sooner does she move into the house than she accidently discovers the Sohma clan's great secret: that some of its members are cursed to turn into animals from the Chinese zodiac when hugged by a person of the opposite sex. And thus the story begins...
